OPS has recently completed an internal experiment with advertising on Google.
We tested the effect of switching off our advertising, comparing the quality and quantity of hits to the site before and after. This was a very basic test, but the results speak for themselves.

We switched off our Google Adwords campaign for April, May and June. We switched the Adwords campaign back on at the end of June, and compared our visits to onepartscissors.com for June and July. The results are very interesting.

37% increase in visits

Our Analytics for the site show a 37% increase in visitors to the site when Google advertising is running.

We also have seen a 21% increase in the number of pages viewed by the visitors – this means that people are looking at the site in more depth.

66% increase in visits to the contact page

The number of people looking to contact us increased by two thirds. The last column of this table shows the percentage of visitors to the site that viewed the contact page. This number has increased – 37% more visitors to the site are going to the contact page.

The increase of visitors to the contact page is a very important statistic – 66% more visitors to our contact page results in people contacting us more often.

What does this mean?

This simple experiment has ensured that we will continue our Google Advertising, and allocate more budget to it whenever possible. We have noted an increased number of emails and calls from prospective clients – and the Google Adwords campaign is the only variable which has changed.

If you would like to increase the visits to your website, call us today. We will analyze the current state of your website, check if there are any improvements to content that are needed, and set up a campaign for you with Google Adwords.

One Part Scissors has created a range of half-page adverts for Andrew Brough Communications, to be featured in various trade journals and industry publications, such as Sales Guru, SA Conference Directory, and The Journal of Marketing.

The adverts will in most cases run below an editorial written by Andy. In Sales Guru, for example, Andy will discuss how sales skills and negotiation skills should be employed to get the best ‘win-win’ result.

As the adverts will run in conjunction with an article that allows for greater discussion around the various offerings of Andrew Brough Communications, the adverts themselves have the single goal of building the Brand and connecting the Brand to the writer of the article. We used the same photo of Andy in both the advert and the article to tie them together, and the style and branding of the adverts tie closely back to the website and the rest of Andy’s corporate communications.

The trade journals and publications the adverts are running in are characterized by extremely busy pages, with many of the adverts being loud, busy and chaotic. We sought to create some visual space and rest of the reader, which will allow the adverts to stand out, with their strong blue colours and plenty of open space. This visual oasis in the middle of the magazine will attract attention more than many of the ‘attention getting’ devices used in the competitor’s adverts.

OPS is currently also at work on some minor tweaks to andrewbrough.com that will make the content more accessible in more ways.

The ASTD Global Network South Africa – The American Society for Training and Development – had an existing website, but without the ability to easily update content via a content management system, getting new info onto the site and preparing newsletters became a real chore.

One Part Scissors created a new website for the ASTD that used the key visual elements from the old site – with a fresher, more modern feel. Certain key pieces of content – such as a Survey Document was in high demand on the website, but was difficult to find. In the new website we created a bold icon in the right sidebar of every page to ensure this info can be easily found.

Small visual devices were used to create a subtle layered feel – shadows, textures, and glows on certain elements make the website a more enjoyable one to read.

OPS created a website in 2007 for 4D and A Architects, the architects behind the creation of our former offices in Stonemill Office Park. Now in 2010, the website needed to be refreshed and updated with a more current style and approach.

The website showcases 4DA’s diverse portfolio of corporate, commercial, residential and educational projects, set against the backdrop of an intensely minimal space which allows the focus to remain squarely on the projects themselves.

Warwick Fabrics approached One Part Scissors to create a website for the UK region.
Until now, Warwick UK has been using the Warwick International website to provide it’s clients with product info, but has seen the need to create a unique web presence for the United Kingdom and the European regions it services.

The main purpose of the UK site is to provide information about the fabrics stocked locally. The website also gives Warwick UK the ability to post localized news and information that its clients will find helpful.

There are strong links to the International site, with the Fabric Finder utility linking directly to the International site. The styling for the new UK site was created to match the International site as well, to ensure consistency of branding through the group.

The website is built on the Drupal content management system, allowing Warwick UK the freedom to update news and info quickly and easily as needed.

See the site at warwick.co.uk

Rosebank Union Church as a rich history, having first started as a house church in 1906. The website One Part Scissors designed for the church had to house a wealth of information about the church, it’s values, beliefs, and history, as well as modern-day resources such as audio podcasts, event calendars, blogs, and links to the Social Media Networks.

With this in mind, OPS ensured that the huge body of information is never overwhelming to the user.

The podcast can be found with the website, or directly in iTunes in the Podcast Directory.

As the website is built on the Drupal Content Management System, the church has quick and easy access to edit the website’s info, uploading podcasts, resources, new events, and blog posts on a virtually daily basis.
